Two season finales, two series finales, a new show and some tough decisions await your viewing this week as we come a week closer to saying farewell to the 2009/2010 season. But have no fear, quality television will be around this summer when USA brings back their excellent line-up, starting in June with Burn Notice and Royal Pains.

Monday, May 17

Castle, 10:00 p.m. ABC SEASON FINALE

The second season comes to a close tonight with the Castle and Beckett investigating an assassination and maybe even addressing their simmering chemistry.

Tuesday, May 18

Glee, 8:00 p.m. Fox

It’s really a toss up this week on Tuesday, which seems to be taking a page out of Thursday’s “it’s all so good” dilemma. Glee, or the penultimate episode of NCIS’s season, or the next to last episode of Lost ever – whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

Wednesday, May 19

Good Guys, 8:00 p.m. Fox

Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks in a buddy cop comedy? It’s worth at least one look. And, hey, it gives me something to recommend on Wednesday that isn’t about serial killers, so that’s a definite mark in the plus column.

Thursday, May 20

Bones, 8:00 p.m. Fox SEASON FINALE

A tumultuous season for Booth and Brennan comes to a head in the fifth season finale. Plus, Angela’s father, ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, guest-stars.

Friday, May 21

Friday Night Lights, 8:00 p.m. NBC

Are you ready for some football? As a gridiron fan I can appreciate a little spring football, but not only does Friday Night Lights huddle up, it offers some first class drama.

Saturday, May 22

Legend of the Seeker, Check Local Listings SERIES FINALE

Next we’ll return this spot to Doctor Who, but for one final week, I’m recommending Legend of the Seeker. After two seasons of action and romance, this cult favorite bows out for good (barring a miracle of some sort) this week. Hopefully the show gets a fitting and satisfying ending for fans.

Sunday, May 23

Lost, 9:00 p.m. ABC SERIES FINALE

Will all questions be answered? Will fans be satisfied, angry, happy, frustrated, sad—or all of the above? You’ll have to find out for yourself when Lost waves good-bye on a special night, at a special time, with a special length. And don’t forget the pre-finale Lost special airing at 8:00 p.m., too.

The Weekly Watch List for May 10 –May 16, 2010

These next two weeks represent the saddest two weeks of the year for television addicts. Why? It’s finale time! Most shows on the big networks will be airing the final episodes of the 2009/2010 season in the next two weeks. While the summer isn’t going to be a complete wasteland thanks to USA Network, there will be little more than repeats and reality television on the networks by June. So take in the big, splashy events that are sure to surround your favorite shows’ finales and remember…they’ll be back in September!

Monday, May 10

Chuck, 8:00 p.m. NBC

A few new episodes remain before the season 3 finale, but this is the last new episode to air before NBC makes its renewal decision. Hope remains for a renewal, but it doesn’t hurt to get as many people watching as possible. If you do tune in, you’re in store for a treat. Doc Brown himself comes to Chuck as Christopher Lloyd guest-stars as Chuck’s shrink. You don’t want to miss it. Plus, if you’re on Twitter, don’t forget to #SaveChuck!

Tuesday, May 11

NCIS, 8:00 p.m. CBS

McGee and Abby head to Mexico and the rest of the team investigates a serial killer. After last week’s interesting Tony-centric episode (read my mixed feelings on the episode here), it’ll be fun to see Abby get a little focus this week.

Wednesday, May 12

Criminal Minds, 9:00 p.m. CBS

It must be Chic Geek week on CBS, as Garcia gets some love from the BAU this week, much like Abby on NCIS. Prepare to be freaked out and for the good guys to get the job done--just in time.

Thursday, May 13

Supernatural, 9:00 p.m. CW SEASON FINALE

It’s the end of the world and we know it, and the Winchesters feel fine. Bones and the NBC comedies don’t bow this week, so set your Tivo for Fox and NBC and see how, exactly, Dean and Sam stop Lucifer from taking over. Because, after all, Supernatural will be back with new episodes in the fall.

Friday, May 14

Smallville, 8:00 p.m. CW SEASON FINALE

What can be said about the Season 9 finale beyond: watch it! Fights, romance, and a glimpse of the red super shield? What’s not to love? Tune in, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Saturday, May 15

Legend of the Seeker, Check Local Listings

I know I said I was reserving this spot for Doctor Who, and you should watch it, but I feel like giving a little bit of love to the Seeker this week. There may only be two episodes left, ever, of this fun fantasy show, so I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Sunday, May 16

Desperate Housewives, 9:00 p.m. ABC SEASON FINALE

Ah, heck, when I started this list I never would have imagined Desperate Housewives would make the list once, let alone twice. But this is the sixth season finale for the ladies on Wisteria Lane and I’m sure they have a plethora of twists, cliffhangers and shocking moments planned.

May Sweeps is upon us and that means all of your favorite shows will be pulling out all the stops to lure in viewers. Since everything worth watching is new this week, many of the best shows are going head to head. Find out what show you should watch live—and what you should save for your DVR!

Monday, May 3

Watch: Chuck, 8:00 p.m. NBC

The episode, which involves Chuck and Sarah working with a married spy team, should be fun, but until NBC makes all Chuck fans happy and announces the show’s renewal, it’ll have a permanent place on the Weekly Watch List. So watch this one live and get us a little closer to Season 4.

DVR: House, 8:00 p.m. Fox

Head to head with Chuck, House is always an enjoyable hour but can wait to be watched at a later. Team Bartowski needs you more the grumpy doc.

Tuesday, May 4

Watch: NCIS: Los Angeles, 9:00 p.m. CBS

This week the spin-off to television’s most watched scripted program delivers the resolution to the disappearance of one of the program’s main characters. While uneven in the early episodes, NCIS: LA has found its footing and style in recent weeks to become a must-watch program.

DVR: Lost, 9:00 p.m. ABC

If you’re a Lost fan, odds are you’ll watch this live and DVR it so that you can watch it a few more times until it makes sense. And if you’re just curious about the final episodes of this landmark show, setting your DVR to record it is the best way to go.

Wednesday, May 5

Watch: Criminal Minds, 9:00 p.m. CBS

It’s the show sure to freak you out. And, really, while it is fun to be creeped out there is no need to relive the nightmare via DVR. Watch live and save space on the DVR.

DVR: Cougar Town, 9:30 p.m. ABC

After you’ve watched Criminal Minds you’ll probably need something light, fluffy and funny to clear your mind before you could possibly think about going to sleep. Cue up Cougar Town on the DVR to shake off the serial killer creepiness.

Thursday, May 6

Watch: Supernatural, 9:00 p.m. CW

The Winchester brothers are rapidly approaching the apocalypse, an event nobody really wants to or should miss. This week’s episode includes killer viruses, Death, and probably a healthy amount of brooding from Dean and Sam.

DVR: Grey’s Anatomy, 9:00 p.m. ABC

While the characters behave each week like it’s the end of the, the gang at Seattle Grace aren’t actually facing the Apocalypse like the Winchesters. So, set the DVR for Grey’s Anatomy and catch up with television’s soapiest doctors on Saturday afternoon.

Friday, May 7

Watch: Smallville, 8:00 p.m. CW

Martha Kent and Perry White return to town and are sure to shake things up. As this seminal show’s ninth season wraps up this is surely not an episode you want to miss. In addition, Smallville star Erica Durance (Lois Lane) will be tweeting live during the episode (click here for full details), which just adds to the fun of this sure to be iconic episode.

DVR: Friday Night Lights, 8:00 p.m. NBC

NBC’s football drama returns for it fourth season to run through the summer. In two week you’ll want to catch this live (since it’ll be one of the few shows with new episodes on Friday nights), but record the premiere to watch and enjoy later!

Saturday, May 8

Watch: Doctor Who, 9:00 p.m. BBC America

You know the drill. Saturday. Time Lord. TARDIS. Matt Smith. Karen Gillian. Watch. Enjoy. Repeat.

DVR: Legend of the Seeker, Check Local Listings

This excellent fantasy show may be leaving us for good soon (unless a miracle happens and the fans manage to save the show—which I personally hope happens), so you don’t want to miss the final few episodes.

Sunday, May 9

Pick ‘Em

As difficult as Thursday nights are to pick because of the absolute glut of quality programming, the opposite is the case for Sundays. There’s the Fox animation block, or Desperate Housewives, but in general there isn’t a lot to watch on Sundays. Since I have a personal agenda against reality programming I’m at a loss. My recommendation: use Sunday night to catch up on all of the shows you have saved to your DVR throughout the week.

The Weekly Watch List for April 26 – May 2, 2010

Monday, 26 April 2010 21:55 Rebecca Cabell

As we inch closer to May Sweeps and many shows’ season finales, it is getting harder to decide what to watch on any given night (except Wednesdays, which remain a vast wasteland dominated by reruns and American Idol). Luckily, I’m here to lend a hand with a few suggestions of what would be a great idea to tune into this week.

Monday, April 26

Chuck, 8:00 p.m. on NBC

It is one of TV’s best shows, one of the Top 10 shows I think you should watch, and it returns for a six episode run tonight. Chuck and Sarah embark on their first mission after the events of “Chuck vs. the Other Guy” when they tangle with a pair of Spanish spies aboard a European train. With the season 4 renewal still up in the air, though looking better than it did a few weeks ago, Chuck is still in need of all the fan support it can get.

Tuesday, April 27

NCIS, 8:00 p.m. on CBS

Also returning for its final run of episodes, the team at NCIS is back this week to investigate a murder that is linked to an NCIS polygraph specialists night job. Joe Spano returns as FBI Agent Fornell, who joins Gibbs and his team in the murder investigation.

Wednesday, April 28

Modern Family 9:00 p.m. & Cougar Town 9:30 p.m. on ABC

I’ll make no bones about this fact: I’ll never recommend American Idol in this column. And since the other networks seem terrified to go up against the Karaoke Singers Extravaganza, Wednesdays are a difficult night to find quality programming to recommend. Luckily, ABC is bucking convention and not sending reruns against Idol, instead counterprogramming with new episodes of breakout comedies Modern Family and Cougar Town. Be daring, watch these two comedies and support something other than American Idol.

Thursday, April 29

Bones, 8:00 p.m. on Fox

Booth and Brennan head to a rock and roll fantasy camp to investigate a murder, which is sure to lead to all sorts of hi-jinx and a likely attempt to get Brennan to loosen up a bit. On a night when DVRs work overtime, this week Bones should be at the top of your watch list.

Friday, April 30

Smallville, 8:00 p.m. on The CW & Stargate Universe, 9:00 p.m. on SyFy

Just so it doesn’t seem like all I do is recommend the shows I cover, I’m not just going to suggest watching Smallville this week, but also SyFy’s Stargate Universe. Why Stargate Universe? It is Friday night and Friday nights were made for genre television. So start out with Smallville and then check out SGU.

Saturday, May 1

Doctor Who, 9:00 p.m. on BBC America

Let’s be honest, there isn’t much to watch on a Saturday night. And even if there were a lot of quality shows on Saturdays I think I’d still advise watching Doctor Who on BBC America. So, let’s just put it down now: until further notice, this spot in the Weekly Watch List is reserved for Doctor Who.

Sunday, May 2

Family Guy, 9 p.m. on Fox

It is the show’s 150th episode and it features Brian and Stewie trapped together. That is a recipe for quite a few jokes of varying degrees of inappropriateness. As an added bonus, after the episode proper, Family Guy will treat viewers to previously unaired musical segments.

What show(s) are you most looking forward to this week? Sound off below!

There is a lot to watch on television and sometimes the decision between what to watch and what to skip is quite difficult. Here is my recommendation for the top “can’t miss” show for each night this week.

Monday, April 19

Castle, 10:00 p.m. on ABC

One of the most fun shows on television, I'd never miss the opportunity for an hour of Nathan Fillion. And you shouldn't either.

Tuesday, April 20

Glee, 9:00 p.m. on Fox

Not usually at the top of my personal list, this week’s Madonna themed episode looks interesting. The brilliant shot-for-shot “Vogue” bit that premiered on Hulu.com was enough to pique my interest for at least one week. If you’re a Lost fan and simply can’t miss your weekly dose of confusion, I’d recommend setting your DVR for Glee or snagging the episode off of iTunes when available.
